Small but cozy – that’s how our rooms are. All of
them are furnished with a large desk facing the window, a bed, shelves, white walls and a
wardrobe. There is also a sink.
The rooms have a TV and internet connection.
Most of them are 12. 5 square meters and cost 242 euros per month, plus in each flat there is a corner room, which is 19. 5 square meters and costs
309 euros (as of June 2021)
The rooms have been completely renovated by SWFR in 2019.
In our large 22-size shared flats most of the cohabitation of our dormitory takes place. There are five shared flats, one on the ground floor and two each on the first and second floor. We do not live anonymously side by side but know each other and live together. The heart of each flat is the living room, which is individually furnished. It is where people eat, celebrate, and laugh. There is also a TV and frozen pizza (in the freezer). The flats share two kitchens, four toilets and two shower rooms with two showers each. Cleanliness is important to us! Three times a week, cleaning fairies come to clean toilets, showers, and kitchens. We are responsible for the rest. Please remember that as part of a large flat, you are also responsible for cleanliness.
Mulled wine evenings in winter, barbecues in summer, Tour de Chambre (party from room to room), watching movies and cooking together - we do not get bored so quickly. In addition to the activities on the floors, there are bar evenings in our bar, a summer and winter party and tutorials.
Tutorials are working groups that roommates organize for the others. Currently, there are several tutorials: Bicycle, garden, music-/fitnessroom, the
bar, semesterfest, art, hiking and many more.
Our small but fine residence offers more than just 110 rooms. Our way of life is hard to capture on a website, especially since life here is largely analogue. In the garden there is a volleyball court, which is used especially in summer. On the ground floor you can stock up with different balls – volleyball, soccer, handball, anything your heart desires. The large cherry tree, the fireplace in the courtyard for barbecue purposes or the cozy seating area in the garden are reasons enough not to leave the house and garden. In the courtyard there is enough space to sit together and also to park your bicycle under the roof. Particularly expensive bikes can also be stored in the locked bicycle compartment. In front of the house is a private parking lot for cars.
If the weather is bad, there is table tennis in the gym for all sports enthusiasts. Here you can also train on equipment. If you like it more musically, you can let loose in the music room, for example on drums. For quieter tones there is also a piano. Furthermore, we have a bar that regularly invites you to inexpensive cocktails or theme nights during the semester. The bar also offers table football for free use. A large flat screen TV makes the seminar room appear multifunctional: Here you can practice presentations with the help of a blackboard or chill together on the sofas and watch a movie.
As soon as the mountain of dirty laundry doesn’t fit in the closet anymore, there are washing and drying machines in the cellar, as well as a drying room. The internet is provided with good quality by the Studierendenwerk. There are two PCs in the computer room, and we also have a printer that accepts all printing jobs as long as there is enough credit on the copy card. A document scanner/printer is also available in the computer room. In the rooms there is cable connection for TV and a LAN socket.
Falkenbergerstraße 20 is in Mooswald, a district in the northwest of Freiburg. By bicycle, it takes 12 minutes to get to the Institute District, where the natural sciences faculties are located. The humanities faculties’ students have to pedal 15 minutes into the city center, so everything is rather close by. The faculty of engineering is around the corner, within 5 minutes you can reach it by bike. There is plenty of time to sleep in the morning and still sit in the lecture on time. The new tram stop of line four can also be reached within a seven-minute walk. It runs every 8 minutes during the day and it takes eight minutes to get to the city center.
Very prominent in our surroundings is the Seepark. It is in immediate walking distance to the dormitory and invites you to swim and relax together. However, we do not live on the so-called “Stusie” side, i. e. the lake side with the “student settlement” of the Studierendenwerk Freiburg, but on the other side of the lake in a residential area. The Dreisam, the Opfinger See or the animal park Mundenhof, are also very close.
In Mooswald there is a weekly market on Wednesday and Saturday, and in our vicinity there are some culinary delicacies such as ice cream parlors, kebab places or bars, in case the fridge is empty again. By bicycle you can also reach Lidl/Rewe in three minutes and the newly built West Arcades Mall with various shopping and dining options. There you can find more unusual food e. g. in Denn’s Biomarkt. Directly next to the dormitory are several bakeries, bicycle shops, a post office with possibility to accept parcels and a bank.
We students have a friendly relationship with our facility manager, Mr. Masoud Hazerghalati. Masoud lives in a separate apartment on the ground floor. He has been taking care of minor and major repairs and breakdowns at the dorm since 2014. Broken heater, clogged sink? Masoud always helps warmly and gladly. He always has an open ear – not only for damage reports. Since being taken over by the Studierendenwerk Freiburg in 2017, he has held the position of our boss in the house and mediates in case of problems. In terms of organization, for example, planned parties are registered with him or the planning of the summer and winter festival is discussed. He is also in charge of the Studierendenwerk Campus dorms 270 and 370.
